Dog Team 3 “A” – Patty and Abbey
Abbey is a 6 year old Labrador Retriever. Patty and Abbey are certified to MAT+SAR and National Search Dog Alliance (NSDA) standards in Area (Airscent), Land & Water HRD, and Avalanche Search. They are also a certified article/evidence search team. Abbey is a hard worker who is eager to please, with a very kind & loving personality. She began her training at 6 months with Nose Work, a sport inspired by the training methodology of detection K9s, and received her NW1 title 9 months later. She has been training with Search & Rescue ever since.
Dog Team 3 “Z” – Patty and Ziva
Patty’s second search dog is Ziva, a 4 year old Labrador Retriever. They were the first dog team in Alaska to be nationally certified in trailing by successfully passing their National Search Dog Alliance (NSDA) Trailing II evaluation. Patty and Ziva are also certified in land cadaver and awaiting their certification evaluation in water cadaver. Ziva is enthusiastic and spirited and her love of work and play infects us all.
Dog Team 4 – Charity and Roo
Roo is a 3 year old Shepard mix training in air scent. Roo loves to go for hikes with her sister Molly, swim in the lakes fetching sticks and checking out the wildlife and to play in the snow.
Dog Team 5 – Dan Govoni and Dugg
At now four years old, Dugg is best described as a 85 lb. cross between the bouncy fun loving Tigger from Winnie the Po, with the non stop drive of the Energizer Bunny. Dan and Dugg are currently certified in Wilderness Airscent search and are pursuing certification in cadaver search. In his off time Dugg lives with his dad, Elmo and is aunt, Chewey, and handler Dan, in Big Lake, where he never seems to run out of mischief to get into, or some new antics to pull off.
Dog Team 6 – Jim and Yukon
Yukon is a 5 year old border/rough collie mix that is certified to the MAt+SAR and NSDA Standards in wilderness airscent search. Yukon LIVES to find loss people in need of rescue and safety. Jim and Yukon are also certified in Land HRD and Avalanche Search as secondary disciplines, and are working toward Water HRD the so they can help those families to bring closer with their love ones. They are a dedicated team hoping to make a positive difference in the lives of those that need them.
Dog Team 7 – Tom and Tasha
Tasha is a three-year-old Labrador, Shepherd, Rottweiler mix. She has been training with Tom as a trailing dog team for six months. She loves camping and is a great hunting and fishing companion. She likes people likes finding people and is a very kind loving dog eager-to-please.
Dog Team 8 – TC and Moose
Moose is a 4 year old Lapponian Herder, a breed of dog from Finland used by the Sami people for herding and guarding their reindeer. Moose is training TC in trailing.
Dog Team 9 – Stacie and Myka
Myka is a 4 yr old Australian Cattledog / Border Collie mix. She is certified in Airscent, Land HRD, Water HRD and Avalanche search with MAT+SAR K9 and is nationally certified in Airscent and Land HRD thru the National Search Dog Alliance (NSDA). Her favorite activity is to herd anything that moves fast!
Dog Team 10 – Michelle and Murray
Murray is a 2 year old chocolate lab who lives in Girdwood with his handler Michelle. Murray and Michelle joined the team in Nov 2016 and are training in trailing search. Murray loves his job to find people!
Dog Team 12 – Lisa and Mak
Mak is a 6 year old black Labrador Retriever certified in Airscent search with MAT+SAR K9 and nationally thru the National Search Dog Alliance (NSDA). Lisa and Mak are also training in cadaver search. He is an ebullient lab who loves to retrieve, swim and run. He is a successful bird hunter too!
Dog Team 14 – Joyce and Cherry Bomb
Cherry Bomb is a 3 year old Australian Shepherd training her handler Joyce in Airscent Search.
Dog Team 15 – Amy and Tanker
Tanker is an energetic two year old Labrador Retriever/Husky mix who was rescued from the local shelter. Although undertandably cautious about leaving his human Mums side at first, he now realizes there are nice people out there and is all about finding people. He loves a good rubbing, some loving and lots of treats. He started with the team in January 2017 and is training in trailing search.
Dog Team 16 – Bethany and Tikanni
Tikanni or Tika is an Alaskan sled dog who loves to use her nose to search. She is training in the trailing discipline. When Tika is not training she loves to hang out at the local museum and talk to people about dogs in Alaska. She has 23 sled dog brothers and sisters. Tika also has three cats that keep her on her toes. Tika wants to remind everyone to make sure you tell someone where you are going and always be prepared for anything that can happen. Take lots of water and snacks on your travels!
